This is the image for the news article titled Rapp Wins MRTF GrantOn September 12, 2022, Ashley Rapp, RMS Principal, Dr. Monica Davis, Superintendent of Schools, Craig Hounsom, Georgia White, MRTA Region 7 ViceĀ­ President, Martin White, Region 7 Legislative Committee Chair, and the following members of MRTA and Phelps County Retired Teachers Association (the local unit of MRTA), including Betty Green (President), Susan Bates (Vice-President), and Eleanor Terry were present as Ashley Rapp was presented with a certified check for $500 from MRTF President, Karen Miller, and Region 7 Vice-President, Georgia White, as well as a letter of congratulations from MRTA Executive Director, Maria Walden. 
Ashley Rapp, a fifth-grade teacher at Rolla Middle School, of Rolla 31 School District, wrote a grant entitled "Bringing History to Life with Hands-on Activities". After a unit on Westward Expansion, students will then follow a recipe for crispy rice treats, which will subsequently help them create a sod house. RMS fifth graders will then mimic building the Transcontinental Railroad, using toothpicks and marshmallows. Students will collaborate in planning their projects and deepen their history knowledge by completing the hands-on activities. A panel of retired teachers from across the region selected this grant as one of the nine recipients out of many applications for a $500 classroom grant from Region 7 MRTA. This is Ashley's second consecutive winning grant 
Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation President, Karen Miller, together with the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel and members of both Boards, as well as Region 7 Vice-President, Georgia White, and the more than 27,000 plus members across the state who help to raise the money for the grants would like to congratulate Ashley Rapp, of Rolla Middle School, Rolla 31 School District, winner of a $500 classroom grant from MRTF to help her in her classroom.
